Happy Candy Day!!

It's Halloween and although we aren't the type to dress up in crazy costumes, we love making a warm fall-ish dinner, lighting some pumpkin spice candles and putting our pumpkins on display as we wait for trick-or-treaters. Our "up and coming" neighborhood can be spotty on how many kids stop by, but it seems like since last October, there are more and more kids on the block.

It's still too bright out to show our pumpkins, but we went the simple route with spots of light instead of a Jack-O-Lantern this year.

It's usually snowing on Halloween in Denver (a cruel trick on little kids who have to hide their costumes under bulky winter coats), so we planned on a sweet potato chili (FYI, I will pretty much die for anything with sweet potatoes in it). It was actually a pleasant sunny day today, but a spicy chili still hit the spot.

Oh, and because I never turn down a reason to bake, we have about three thousand of these little goodies floating around our house... Who said grown-ups don't get treats too? :)

Now let's see what the most popular costume will be for our trick-or-treaters...  Angry Birds, anyone??

Welcome to our Home!

Home Sweet Home
Welcome to our blog, and our home! I'm Jill, a marketing professional by day, and an interior decorator wannabe, novice chef, and Pilates practitioner by night. My boyfriend Aaron bought our house in downtown Denver about a year-and-a-half ago, and I moved in shortly after. As you can see, it's a little rough around the edges, but with our attention and care, we are slowly redoing, restoring and redecorating it to perfection (or at least our version of it!).

It's an original 1904 "Denver Square" house, made up of solid brick, amazing carpentry, beautiful hardwood floors and of course, tons of quirks and all the surprises that go along with a 100-year-old house. The house was somewhat restored when Aaron purchased it, but at a very base level. The plumbing, kitchen, bathrooms and rooms in general are all in good condition. But the house just didn't have much of our personality in it.

We've started on a few rooms and a few projects, and in doing so, have discovered some awesome and unique characteristics, and some challenging ones as well. Before we got too far along, we decided to keep track of our progress in this blog. We plan to share our before & after shots, uncover some of the history of the house and the neighborhood, recount our DIY projects and highlight a bit about our life in downtown Denver.

No doubt our house has seen and been through some pretty crazy things in its 107-year life. We hope you enjoy following along as we take it through its next chapter!
